Robyn Phillips is an award-winning South African film director whose work is defined by its humanity, honesty and emotional depth. Guided by intuition and a deep connection to her subjects, she places community and South African culture at the heart of her storytelling.

Phillips is drawn to stories that are often uncomfortable to confront but important to tell, using film to explore the complexities, contradictions and unspoken emotions within South African society. Her background as an Art Director in advertising brings a strong visual sensibility to her filmmaking, combining carefully crafted cinematic imagery with intimate, character-driven storytelling.

Her award-winning debut film, Seasons of Longing, explores the queer history of her home and the people whose experiences have often remained unseen or untold, approaching their stories with sensitivity and authenticity.

Through her work, Phillips continues to question, explore and challenge, creating films that confront difficult subjects while remaining deeply human at their core.
