Julia Jansch is an award-winning South African writer and director whose work explores human connection, transformation and the emotional complexities that shape our lives. Her films have been showcased by Disney+, MTV Docs and The New Yorker.

After working in development at FremantleMedia and RadicalMedia, Jansch founded Southern Point Pictures, through which she develops distinctive, character-driven stories.

Her documentary short My Father the Mover won the Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary Short at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival and received a Critics Choice Award nomination. Her film Elsa premiered at Tribeca in 2022 and was later acquired by The New Yorker, while The Academy was made for Disney+.

Jansch holds degrees from Stellenbosch University and the University of Oxford, as well as a filmmaking diploma from the New York Film Academy. She is currently developing her debut narrative feature, The Big Five.
