Lydia Matata is a Nairobi-based filmmaker whose work explores compelling personal and social narratives. She wrote and directed Sungura and Utapata Mwingine, which won Best Emerging Filmmaker at the UN Women Global Voices Film Festival. A writer on Netflix’s Country Queen, her latest documentary Kenyan on Mars airs on Al Jazeera. She’s currently developing her debut feature Pepo Kali, supported by the Red Sea Film Festival.
