Eva, a young poet in her 20s, sits in a genetic counsellor’s office, overwhelmed by the high risk of breast cancer due to her family history. Testing positive, she faces the prospect of a mastectomy to reduce her risk. The decision and anticipation of losing her healthy breasts weigh heavily on her. Her sprightly best friend, Hannelie, and loving fiancé, Daniel, offer support, but their interactions and suggestions are triggering. Society’s association of breasts with sexuality, breastfeeding, and attractiveness further complicates her emotions. Retreating into herself, Eva avoids confronting the issue. As the poetry festival approaches, Eva is thrust into the spotlight, but has she waited too long to make her decision?
